One morning I made my way down to Swiss Bakery in Vancouver after hearing about their creation in the midst of a Cronut Craze. They named it the Frissant and built a pastry that was donut-shaped but croissant-textured like its well known sister, the Cronut. It was the closest thing to the real thing, and boy was it a treat! It was a light, flakey, deep fried, and even dusted off with some sugar. Definitely some gluttony goodness and one hell of a way to start the morning.
I’ve never tried the ACTUAL New York Cronut, but I’d say Swiss Bakery’s adaption was nothing less than spectacular! The Frissant was made to order and fried to perfection. It was crispy on the outside and light and flakey (like a croissant! omg!) on the inside. It was also filled with a vanilla custard which added a nice touch to the pastry itself. Instead of being just another piece of fried dough, this addition definitely made it seem like an entire meal. I could barely finish one, but it was most certainly worth it!
Other than this wonderful Frissant creation, Swiss Bakery is well known for their baked goods like fresh made Artisan Bread and a variety of desserts like donuts, squares, tarts, and cookies. They sell a range of little pastries and cakes as well as drinks, and even whole lunch meals that include soups, sandwiches, salads, and rolls. The established bakery is famous for their perfected craft and is definitely a gem that is worth checking out if you’re in Vancouver.
